Every family is different.

Every person is different.

Every worker, locality and time period is different.

Therefore, what is the purpose of looking at a Two-by-Two childhood?

Maybe none.

But it is worthy of note that nearly every person raised as a Two-by-Two, mentions the same kinds of feelings and experiences. The Two-by-Two system has changed somewhat since it first began in 1897.

Therefore, care must be taken against the obvious fallacy of saying this is how it is, was or will always be.

If it's not a love letter, it's a hate letter!

I can give you good examples of how this Black or White thing works.

When a worker is in the work, he is worshiped and White.

No matter what this worker does or says, he is White.

If the worker wants to leave the work to get married, he falls off the pedestal and is Black.

Now, no matter what this worker says or does, he is Black.

He will be accused of any number of things.

He will not be as credible or right as a worker that is still White.

Who is God?

He is what He is, and does what He does.

He's Pure and Perfect Goodness,

Righteousness,

Holiness,

Justice,

Love,

Grace,

You have referred to a

Catch 22

experienced by many of us with 2X2 backgrounds:

Concerns about how acceptable we are to a group, how well we can conform to measure up to expectations--coupled with not being quite at home in the environments we learned early on to see as worldly and improper.

There were many activities I was taught should be avoided.

If specific grounds could be cited, they were:

• being in the band would mean wearing pants,for band uniforms were unisex, and designed for use in the marching band, although they were worn at concerts too.

Movies were worldly even when the subject matter was innocuous (Heidi, The Yearling, westerns):

I don’t feel any one learning experience has stood out as the most important, however, the lessons I am currently learning seem like they will be very important once I have finished working through them.

I’m currently learning how to love myself,

allow myself to be loved,

accept love from others

and love them for who they truly are.

You will find this passage very appropriate to many of our 2x2 situations.........

"Those children who have been raised in a LEGALISTIC home or church in which nothing they can ever do is good enough, are at a tragic disadvantage.

They will indeed, in all probability, grow to be guilt-ridden adults whose only aim is to destroy the institutions and beliefs that have caused them such pain and produced such an awareness of guilt.

LEGALISTIC, unloving, unforgiving cults and churches that do not understand or grasp the love, mercy, forgiveness, and unbounded Grace of the Lord, have most assuredly done the world and God a terrible disservice.
